Vic: Football legend Hawkins denies being a wife basher = 2

Mrs Hawkins said her husband was a great father and in the heat of the moment she had
called the police into what she now describes as "a private matter between two people."

"We're human ... and we do argue like most people," she said.

There were some extreme times of stress being married to a public figure, she said
adding that she had also lost her parents and a brother over the past four years.

"There are lots of issues that you can look back and blame it on, but I probably at
the time went overboard," she told Melbourne Radio MMM.

"The regret that I have for that is enormous and what it is doing and what it has done
to ... only a bloke that wouldn't lay a finger on a cat.

"As a wife I've got to live with that myself."

Mr Hawkins said the court matter was a mere formality and that they would walk in the
court and within five minutes walk out again.

"We will go to court, but there are no charges to be answered."
