Qld: Beattie to undergo more cancer surgery today

Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE will undergo a second round of skin cancer surgery today.

Mr BEATTIE expects to be back at his desk tomorrow afternoon, after surgery to remove
a basal cell carcinoma close to his left eye.

The latest cancer is close to the site where another basal cell carcinoma was removed last March.

Mr BEATTIE says he hopes his second cancer scare highlights the importance of covering
up in the sun.

He says the cancer is is a legacy of years of going without a hat when he was a boy
in far north Queensland.

The fair-haired Mr BEATTIE regularly has skin cancers burnt off his face.
