Collingwood wins in Australian Rules football

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Defending champion Collingwood remained the team to beat in Australian Rules football, winning its third match in a row to start the Australian Football League season.

The Magpies beat Carlton 15.12 (102) to 11.8 (74), led by forward Jarryd Blair's five goals.

The first-year Gold Coast Suns lost 18.14 (122) to 7.9 (51) to the Western Bulldogs, their second big defeat in a row. The Saturday loss was by 71 points, but the Sun lost their first match by 119 to Carlton. Bulldogs key forward Barry Hall kicked five goals, taking his career total to 701.
